Focus on Ingredients ~ The Benefits of Watermelon Seed Oil

Lucy Minerals has been blending Beauty Oils since 2009. We discovered that using blends of luxurious Natural Oils helps to balance the oil production of the skin, while keeping the skin soft, smooth and perfectly moisturized. Many of our oily skinned customers were stripping their skin of all natural oils in order to try to keep their makeup from sliding off their face. The thing is, by stripping away the oil, it causes the skin to pump out even more oil to try to compensate for the loss… it's a vicious circle. By using a few drops of our Beauty Oil mixed with a little water, our Beauty Oils will soak right into the skin and help to nourish and moisturize the skin with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. They are wonderful for all skin types. We are proud to say that all of our Beauty Oils are also safe to use around the eye area.

This being said, we wanted to focus on one particular ingredient that we use in three* of our beauty oils: Watermelon Seed Oil, also known as ‘Ootanga oil’ and ‘Kalahari oil’. Since Africa is believed to be the place of origin of the watermelon, historians trace its origin to the Kalahari Desert of Africa.  Watermelon seeds have been prized for the highly nutritive oil that they contain. The process that is used to extract the oil starts by removing the seeds from the watermelon, washing them thoroughly and then they are allowed to dry. Once dried, the seeds are then cold pressed to extract the beneficial oil. Watermelon seed oil contains high amounts of unsaturated fatty acids. Watermelon seed oil is light, easily absorbed, does not clog pores and is rich in linoleic and oleic acids.

This wonder oil has many benefits for the skin and hair and the lightness of this oil makes it perfect for all skin types, including oily skin. Watermelon Seed Oil is known to help to diminish dark circles and puffiness around the eyes, and also reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Additionally, the comedogenic** rating of Watermelon Seed Oil is zero; which means it is perfect for acne-prone skin. Watermelon Seed Oil is also a perfect choice for hair care, as it is non-greasy yet highly moisturizing and has been known to help prevent hair loss. As if this isn’t enough, Watermelon Seed Oil also has a very long shelf life since it contains a lot of natural Vitamin E. It is also rich in B Vitamins and Vitamin A as well as the minerals magnesium, iron, phosphorus, copper, potassium and manganese.

* We use Watermelon Seed Oil in three of our Beauty Oils: Ambrosia Multi-tasking Beauty Oil, Sweet Dreams Beauty Oil and our new Minimalist Multi-tasking Oil.

** Pore-clogging and Acne-exacerbating ingredients, many of which are commonly found in skin, body, and hair products

Now that you’re well informed on the benefits of Watermelon Seed Oil, we’re sure you’re excited to try one of our Beauty Oils, which are all perfect for the hair as well as the skin. We are sure you won’t regret it and remember… a little goes a long way, so a few drops will be all you’ll need!
